Hand Dancing
Social Dance for Couples

Experience the joy of this social dance, characterized by its six-count rhythm and the playful interplay between partners. Born in the vibrant nightclubs of 1920s New York City as an offshoot of the Lindy Hop, Hand Dance evolved through the Jitterbug era, ultimately finding its own unique rhythm. These energetic dances traveled across the country, with each community adding its own unique flair. In the Washington D.C. area, the late Lawrence Bradford, a dedicated educator, championed Hand Dance, recognizing its significance as an original American folk dance. Inspired by Mr. Bradford’s legacy, we’re thrilled to bring authentic Hand Dance to Columbia, Maryland.

Come, let’s keep this vibrant tradition alive! Classes start Thursday, January 9 at 7PM at Slayton House. This four-class series is available for purchase as a single ticket on Eventbrite or by contacting Brenda at 240-305-0978.
